Hundreds of people, young and old, filled the grounds of St Mary’s Church in Doddington for a poignant Remembrance Day service this morning.

With one of the best turnouts in recent years, members of the brownies, guides, scouts and armed forces as well as children from local schools lead the parade through Church Lane.

As residents of the village gathered to remember the fallen, church warden Paul Dunkley gave a moving reading before representatives from local groups laid their poppy wreaths at the memorial.

And, just as the Last Post was being played, the sun started to shine before everyone filled the pews in the church for a traditional Remembrance Sunday service.

Having travelled back to Doddington from Great Yarmouth, he said: “I try to come back every year and I have been involved in the Remembrance services since I was a child.
