ACCIDENT investigators are writing to local residents to have their say on proposals to build a mini roundabout to improve an accident hit junction in March.

The proposals to build a mini roundabout at the Norwood Road/ Wisbech Road junction are part of a wider £465,000 scheme to improve Wisbech Road - one of the main gateways into the Fenland Market Town.

During the last five years there have been seven injury accidents at the busy junction which is also used by parents and their children to get to nearby schools.

Letters and plans have been sent to residents that will be affected and interested groups, including local councillors, encouraging them to have their say on the proposals.

Not only would the roundabout make it easier for traffic to use the junction but slow vehicle speeds near it, making it safer for pedestrians.

Depending on the results of the consultation work on the junct ion could start as soon as mid August.

Amanda Mays, Team Leader Accident Investigation and Prevention for Cambridgeshire County Council, said: "The mini roundabout should make this busy junction safer and easier to use. The junction has various businesses and houses around it and is well used by children on their way to school.

"The comments we receive will help shape the final scheme. This is part of a wider project to improve Wisbech Road, which is an important gateway and main road into March.
