A restored church is holding its first festival since it was destroyed by a fire four years ago.
St Mary’s Church in Westry, which was re-opened by the Bishop of Ely Rt Rev Stephen Conway on April 1, is holding a flower festival from June 27-29.
The festival, which has the theme Rejoice, will run from 10am to 5pm each day.
The inside of the church will be lined with stalls and refreshments will be available.
On Saturday, there will be a silent auction with supper at 7pm. Tickets are £5 and are available on the door or from Ian Groome at 01354 657562.
The Flower Festival will end on Sunday with a short service of Songs of Praise at 4.30pm.
The church is also holding an organ concert on Friday at 7.30pm. Local organist Roger High will be playing well known tunes on the new Makin Organ.
Admission is £5 including refreshments. Tickets are on sale at the church, at Johnson’s ironmongers and Philpott’s hairdressers.
The restored church has underfloor heating, a new balcony and improved toilet, sink and storage facilities.
The old organ area has become a side chapel or meeting room. The vestry has been refurbished to have a built in desk, storage and hanging space for robes.
Other features include a new organ on the balcony and furniture designed specifically to match the building.
The suspended ceiling has been replaced in the sanctuary and stone steps have been renewed.
In addition there is lighting, a projector, screen, internet and a loop and speaker system.
The church has been re-plastered and decorated and is fully accessible for disabled people.
Rev Jenny Webb said: “Things have being going very well since the church re-opened. We were fortunate to be able to worship in the hall so we kept most of our congregation and everyone is delighted to be back worshipping in the church.
“We want people to get to know the building and hope people who have not been able to have a look around take this opportunity.
“The church is not just for worshipping. We are holding an organ concert and other musical events, and there will be a Quiet Day in August.
“Over the past four years we have held the festival in St Peter’s Church so it will be nice to see the flower arrangements in a new setting.”
