BRITAIN'S largest retirement home specialist, McCarthy & Stone, has pulled out of a 36 homes plan for March.
The company was in the process of submitting an application to build a three-storey, 36-apartment block, in Creek Road.
However, in a surprise letter to Fenland District Council on Friday, the company announced it "no longer wishes to pursue this proposal".
Roger Cartwright, design director for the company's agents, confirmed the company was pulling out and wants the £795 application fee returned.
"I note from your letter of November 29, that the application was considered to be invalid," he says in a letter to Fenland Council. "As a consequence I should be grateful if you would return to this office my clients' cheque."
The application was ruled invalid in November after discussions had failed to get it re-submitted before November 20, the date a new policy for providing flood risk assessments came into force.
