RETIRING teacher Sue Read is planning to relax in her garden and enjoy the gifts presented to her by staff and pupils.

Mrs Read was given a garden bench, pots, bird bath and vouchers to buy plants when she retired from Kingsfield

Primary School, Chatteris.

She has taught mainly reception children in Chatteris for more than 20 years, firstly at Burnsfield and then at Kingsfield following the amalgamation of Burnsfield and King Edward schools.

As music co-ordinator Mrs Read was involved with teaching recorder, keyboards, brass and string instruments. She wrote both the music and words for the Key Stage One Christmas productions.

She was also art co-ordinator and responsible for creating displays throughout the school.

Headteacher Susan Dowling said: "She has always got a smile on her face and is willing to do anything for the children. She thinks of others before herself and always makes people feel good. Mrs Read will certainly be missed by everyone as she touched the hearts of many.
