The RSPCA is on the hunt for people who’d like to give something back and help animals in need.

The animal welfare charity is seeking dedicated volunteer drivers at Block Fen to help with the task of transporting animals.

The charity relies on a network of volunteer drivers in order to transport animals from private boarding, vets and branches to their rehoming centres so they can begin their search for their forever home.

The van that can be used for this role is based at a private boarding facility, used by the RSPCA, in Peterborough.

Emily Venn, from the RSPCA’s operations support team, said: “We are looking for people who are flexible, happy to drive long distances, and of course love animals and want to make a positive impact to animal welfare.

“Our volunteer drivers play a vital role in the work that we do and offer an important support system to our inspectorate and the animal centres. It is really important that we have enough drivers for each area which sadly, at the moment, we don’t.”

We are looking for drivers over the age of 21, with a clean driving licence, and availability during the week. We ask our drivers to commit to at least one day a week either on an ad-hoc basis or a scheduled day.

Gordon Dunham (pictured), who has volunteered with the RSPCA for four years, said: “I really enjoy my RSPCA network driving, you never know what will be next!

“I’ve had everything in the van from bird-eating spiders, snakes and birds, to cats and dogs. I have even had sheep and goats in a trailer on the back!

“I really think that between us we do make a difference to the animals that we help.”

If you are interested, please email amy.zivilik@rspca.org.uk to find out more and to request an application form.

The RSPCA’s animal networking team is small and processing applications and insurance paperwork can take time so please only apply if you are really interested in becoming a volunteer.
