A MAN has been arrested following two raids in Chatteris.

Officers executed the warrants under the Theft Act 1968 at houses in York Road and Westbourne Road.

The operation was carried out last Thursday as part of an investigation into deception.

Officers were also joined by members of the RSPCA, who were there to investigate claims of animal cruelty.

Sector Inspector Robin Sissons said: "We were joined by the RSPCA as we had intelligence to suggest a large number of exotic animals were being kept at the addresses.

"RSPCA inspectors attended to check on the welfare of a number of animals being kept at both addresses."

A joint council and RSPA investigation is currently under way under the Breach of Pet Animals Act 1951. Tortoises were among the animals revoved from the house.

A 49-year-old man from Chatteris has been arrested on suspicion of deception and is due to report back to Wisbech Police Station in January.
