A runner pushed himself to the limit to raise more than £1,500 for a cancer charity.

Michael Stacey completed the London marathon last month, bringing in £1,560.72 for Macmillan Cancer Support ,in memory of his brother David who died 20 years ago of skin cancer at the age of 34.

Mr Stacey, who knocked 13.5 minutes off last year’s race time to finish the race in 3:08 and 35 seconds, also held a race night to boost funds.

His running is in memory of his brother. He said: “My brother was a wonderful person. He was 18 months my senior and what I loved about him was his capacity to listen no matter how busy he was.

“When I took up running he was one of my biggest supporters and met me after many races.

“I have been a member of March AC for a number of years. A wonderful local club whose emphasis is inclusion, accessibility and support-making running fun for everyone.

“When I got a place in the 2014 marathon I knew that this was my opportunity to raise some money for cancer research.”

He presented a cheque to March, Chatteris and District Committee members. For information or support from Macmillan, call free on 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm) or visit macmillan.org.uk.
