SIX volunteers from workplace service provider PHS came to Wisbech to give the Meadowgate School a much-needed hand in redecorating its outside areas.

The volunteers, three from Caerphilly, Wales, and two from Bolton, joined Wisbech resident Harvey Hart to carry out the work as part of the company's management training programme.

Work included painting play equipment, planting a flower bed and weeding and re-turfing grass area near the school staff room.

The school has just had a new extension built which has swallowed all its funds, so PHS stepped in to help.

Vicky O'Brien, one of the PHS volunteers, said: "As part of the course we have to do a charity project. Harvey's daughter will be attending this school from next year and we decided to do some bits and pieces for it."

PHS also donated a cheque after raising £365, as well as a doormat complete with school name and logo.

n Our pictures show volunteers getting stuck into some of the heavy work and Harvey Hart planting the flower bed.
