Two Fen schools, a village and two towns are among award winners in the 21st Anglia In Bloom ceremony.
Benwick Primary and Meadowgate School in Wisbech were awarded in a young person’s category while Chatteris and Waterlees were awarded for town and urban.
St Peter and St Paul’s church gardens were awarded in Wisbech while Fenland Crematorium in March was awarded winner and gold in the crematorium category.
Bloom teams attended from across the six counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk and around 300 people attended a glittering prize giving event in Gorleston today including sponsors, mayors and civic heads.
Bob Ollier chairman of Anglia in Bloom, said: “The Anglia in Bloom communities should be justifiably proud of this year’s achievements.
“Standards have continued on from last year with excellent awards achieved, the outstanding community work, many resourceful projects and superb floriferous displays have all added to fantastic community entries.”
There were 50 gold, 27 silver gilt, nine silver and one bronze awarded.
Mr Ollier added: “The continued key to success has been community involvement where everyone gets involved and works together and then deliver great community projects.
“All communities are recognising the importance of sustainable displays coupled with good horticultural standards and delivering outstanding floral displays.
“These are all achieved through the support from sponsors and community groups engaged across the region, who are dedicated to enhancing their community.”
George Dawson judges’ chairman, said: “A community is a winner as soon as it enters into the campaign.
“No matter what the British climate throws at us the entrants in Anglia in Bloom take it all in their stride and make the areas where they live better places.
“The campaign is not only about flowers. Many different elements are judged, environmental quality, community involvement, biodiversity and the involvement of young people.”
Brian Thornton, president of Anglia in Bloom, said: “Our campaign is all about community participation with a great number of organisations working together.”

• Young Person’s Project 12 to 18: Meadow Gate School, Wisbech.
Five Anglia in Bloom entries will attend the National RHS Britain in Bloom Finals, in Llandudno.
They are Filby (village), Halstead (town), Norwich (big city), Colchester (small city) and Hunstanton (coastal),
