MAURICE Bishop, treasurer of March Town Pigeon Club, has recorded his best ever win during his 47 years of racing pigeons.

His blue cock bird - now named "Scramble" - won First Club, First SE section, First Open Peterborough and District Federation (1,600 birds competing) and also First section and Fifth Open North Road Championship Club (3,325 competed in the National).

The race was from Fraserburgh, Scotland, and his winning pigeon took nine hours for the 366 mile journey. This was an outstanding achievement because of the bad weather and Scramble had to fly 40 miles farther than the four than took higher positions in the National Club.

Maurice, of Knights End Road, March has been very successful over the years, but "this latest win tops them all," he says.

Maurice added that he was also pleased for fellow club member John Wells, who gained Second section and Third federation in the same event.
