The sighting of a seal in the river at March has prompted loads of excitement on social media this afternoon.

Jack Davis posted a picture on the March Free Discussion page on Facebook showing the seal swimming in the river close to the town centre.

The photo led to a discussion on whether or not the animal was a seal, with some suggesting it could be an otter, or even just a dog having a swim.

But Jack posted that he had followed the cute creature for a couple of hundred metres and said it was between four and five feet long.

Sightings of seals inland are not uncommon, they appear regularly in the river at Wisbech, where the occasional porpoise has also been seen. Seals have even been spotted on the washes at Welches Dam in Manea in the past, as well as in Peterborough and at Godmanchester.
