Emergency services were called to help the woman who worked at the 24 hour Tesco store and she is now back at work.

A store spokesman said it was exactly the sort of scenario where the new defibrillator could have been used.

Laura Topping, trading manager at the March Tesco store, said: “The kit is amazing. We are really pleased to be chosen as one of the locations to house it.

“I hope it gives peace of mind knowing that there is something in store that can help people if in trouble.”

The defibrillator machine is easily taken off the wall and once opened it talks the user through how to use it.

Mayor councillor Rob Skoulding, who launched Have A Heart campaign to help save lives after his father Peter died of a heart attack, said: “As soon asyou open the box you are talked through step by step how to use this life saving equipment.

“Sadly my Dad died of a heart attack, I’m hoping this equipment may mean that it can save a life that may otherwise have been lost.”

The other defibrillators are at One Stop shops in The Causeway and at Maple Grove, at the Olive Cromwell Hotel and the Town Hall.

The location of a sixth one is yet to be agreed .

The equipment will have signposts directing people where to go in case of emergency athat are being made and donated to the cause by Adam Triggs of 3B Design and Print.

Cllr Skoulding’s Have A Heart campaign raises funds to buy the defibrillators at a cost of around £1,000 each

He has donated all of his allowance as a Fenland district councillor to the cause and hopes that charitable organisations like the Round Table, Lions and Freemasons will get behind the campaign.

He said: “It is a simple piece of equipment that can save a life if you can reach one quickly. People stand a chance if they can get help from a defib within five minutes which is why I want to ensure there is one within four minutes of wherever people are in the town.”
