PUPILS and staff at an Ely school were in mourning today following the sudden death of a teacher.

Nanette van Wright-Jordan, head of drama at King’s Ely Junior, died following what the school described as “a very brief illness”.

Nanette, 50, joined the school in 2001 as a part-time head of drama before going on to take the role full time.

She was the driving force behind a series of school productions and was described by head teacher Sue Freestone as ‘”positive and enthusiastic”.

In a letter to parents Mrs Freestone said: “No-one in the school, who has passed through King’s Ely Junior, has not been touched by her enthusiasm and her positive approach to life.

“The King’s Ely community will miss Nanette.”

A concert due take place on tonight is to be dedicated to the memory of Nanette.

The school will also hold a service for Nanette tomorrow morning at 11am in Ely Cathedral.

“All King’s Ely Junior pupils will attend together with those in KES who wish to do so,” said Mrs Freestone.

“Parents are very welcome to join us.”
