POLICE officer Mark Cross is on target to take his fund-raising total past £10,000 when he holds his third charity darts event for the hospital ward that treated him for breast cancer.

Mr Cross, from March, was one of only 300 men in the country to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. After two operations and months of chemotherapy, the father-of-two entered remission.

Since then he has raised thousands for the Oncology Department at Peterborough City Hospital - helping them buy an ultrasound machine and fund ongoing clincial trials.

His two previous charity darts days have been a resounding success - and Saturday’s event at the GER Sports Club promises to be the best yet.

Doors open at 11am, with draws for darts competitions including cricket triples, pairs and singles taking place at 1pm.

The GER, Grant Watson and Ian Woodard have donated cups for the singles and pairs contests while all eight dart boards have been sponsored by Fenland businesses and sports teams.

The day will include an auction and draw, with prizes worth hundreds of pounds on offer.

Framed Manchester United and Chelsea shirts, signed by the 2012-2013 squads, will be auctioned alongside a West Ham United shirt signed by Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.

A signed Phil Taylor darts shirt, an England rugby union shirt signed by the 2003 World Cup winning squad and an authentic Paddington Bear will also go under the hammer.

Other lots include a behind-the-scenes day at the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at Royal Air Force Coningsby, Lincolnshire, and a one-week holiday in Malta donated by Barry and Alison Gelder.

Mr Cross said: “It promises to be another fun-packed day and everyone is welcome.”
