SILENCE fell on Wisbech' Orchards Primary School on Friday as pupils from reception to Year 6 staged a sponsored silence to raise more than £200 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.Teacher, Michelle Juniper said: "The children were great, and we varied the length of the silences, with older children managing an hour, whilst the younger ones stayed quiet for between 15 minutes to half-an-hour."They all took part in The Macmillan Big Hush in their classrooms and we gave them lots of activities to occupy them from word searches to reading and maths' tests."We try to stage at least one event each term for charity."North-East Cambridgeshire MP Malcolm Moss, at the school to encourage the children, said: "We think we are asking the impossible from children to stay quiet but happily they have proved us wrong and helped raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.
