A CHATTERIS chippy has been crowned the best in Eastern England in the national Fish and Chip Shop of the Year contest.

Petrou Brothers battered off competition from the Downham Fryer, in Downham Market, to claim the regional title.

The shop will compete against nine others across the country to become the best in the UK, with another strict round of judging in front of a panel of industry experts in January.

It will be scored in its quality of product, customer service, cleanliness and innovation, with the winner announced at an awards ceremony in London.

Shop owner Mark Petrou said: "To be judged the best in Eastern England is a real honour, and it is thanks to the hard work of all the staff and support shown by our loyal customers.

"It would be an amazing achievement to be crowned the best in the UK, but we are looking forward to the final in January, whatever the result.
