Sir Harry Smith Community College reaches UK Team Maths Challenge finals

WHITTLESEY’S finest maths boffins have proved they can mix it with the best in the country.

Thomas Baxter, 14, Luke Baxter, 13, Kerri Purcell, 14, and Jack Moseley, 13, won the regional finals of the UK Team Maths Challenge earlier this year.

The Sir Harry Smith Community College students then went head-to-head with schools from across the country at the national finals in London.

Even though the numbers didn’t quite add up for a win, head of maths Alison Brown said she was “extremely proud” of their achievement.

She said: “I’m am delighted by what they have done. They have shown an excellent standard of maths and have demonstrated they are very good at working in a team.”

The brainy pupils were selected for the competition because of their mathematical ability and aptitude for working in a team.

They were then trained by teacher Robert Flowers to work through a series of algerbra games ready for the final at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London on Monday, June 21.
