Sir Harry Smith Community College in Whittlesey has issued a warning to parents after one of its pupils was sent indecent images and asked to respond via social media.

Principal Jonathan Digby sent out an email to make parents aware of the incident on behalf of the police.

It was shared on social media by a parent.

The statement reads: “The college has been made aware of an incident that occurred locally, which I feel that all parents should know about, so that you can ensure the safety of your children.

“A young person was approached by social media, sent indecent images and then asked to respond.”

The statement added that the incident has been reported to police.

Mr Digby said: “As a college we do have an ongoing safeguarding agenda via assemblies, skills for life lessons and pastoral processes.”

The principal, on behalf of the college and Cambridgeshire Police, also warned parents to “be vigilant.

“Discuss with your child the importance of internet safety and the reporting of anything inappropriate or anything that makes them feel uncomfortable”, the statement added.
