A wind farm has pledged £24,000 to be shared between six Fenland groups.

Burnthouse Wind Farm in Turves, through their community fund, is getting behind projects in March, Coates, Benwick and Whittlesey.

One of the groups to benefit is the Little Ducklings parent and toddler group in Coates, who received funds to build a sensory garden in the village’s primary school.

The garden, which will include an eco-rain wheel and eco-wind chimes, is designed to provide stimulation to children who may have a visual, hearing or smell impairment.

Lindsay Boucher, of Little Ducklings, said: “We are thrilled to receive this investment from the Burnthouse Farm Wind Farm Community Fund.

“This funding will make a difference for children of Coates, Turves, Eastrea and Whittlesey and make the Little Ducklings as accessible to as many families within the community as possible.”

Other recipients are Young People March, who have been granted funds to run a school holiday drop-in programme, Benwick Forget Me Not group, who will put on a Christmas dinner for the elderly, Commotion Youth Group March for a youth outreach project and Braza and GER Short Mat Bowls Clubs in March for new equipment.

Operator REG Windpower’s community relations manager Heather Jones said: “We are delighted to support such a variety of good causes in the community.

We look forward to supporting more worthwhile projects in the area over the coming years, and encourage anyone interested in the community fund to get in touch.”

Burnthouse Farm Wind Farm Community Fund is administered by Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, who meet twice a year to decide on applications. The next deadline for applications is August 31 2014.
