Sixty two houses could be built in Doddington if planners approve a scheme which developers say has been four years in the making.

Whetstone Developments has applied to build a mix of open market and affordable housing east of Bevills Close and north of Eastmoor Lane.

The developers claim the site is “accepted” within the emerging core strategy which won Government approval earlier this year.

“The proposed scheme has been worked up in close consultation with both highway officers and planning officers at Fenland District Council,” says a design statement accompanying the application.

“The level of affordable housing will be in excess of the current planning policy of 25 per cent.”

Whetstone says their scheme will provide extra land for the Lionel Walden School to assist with future expansion.

Extensions could be planned to the rear of the school without the loss of green/play space.

“Earlier discussions with the head teacher at Lionel Walden School proved very positive with this concept,” says the design statement.
