A chess club has been started at March Royal British Legion Club by a club member and chess enthusiast.

Frank Gillespie started playing chess about 30 years ago when he lived in London. He is a member of the club's entertainment committee and came up with the idea of starting a club.

Kay Larham, also a member of the club's entertainment committee, said: "We have been told it is the only running chess club at present.

"Frank has got about 10 regular players and is looking for people to join. Players can be experienced or beginners and Frank will tutor people if they want to play."

The chess club is open to anyone, but anyone under 18 years old will have to be accompanied by a parent and will eventually have to become club members.

It meets every Monday at the Royal British Legion Hall, in West End, at 7.30pm.
