A WEEKEND of celebrations will be held to mark the 50th anniversary of a Fenland church - but former congregation members are needed to help make the event a success.

Organisers have been busy planning for the anniversary at Upwell Methodist Church, which will be held from September 22-24.

However, organisers are keen to hear from anyone who has links with the church and who has photographs which can be displayed for a special exhibition.

The exhibition will include archive film and photographs and there will be a reunion of friends of the church.

Organiser Jane Hurst said: "We want to hear from anyone who was married or christened in the church and photographs of your special day are needed for the exhibition."

The church hopes former members will loan their pictures for the exhibition.

There will also be a flower festival, stalls, lunches and a special service of celebration.

Radio Norfolk presenter Keith Skipper and friends will be presenting a special show called "All Preachers Great and Small" at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 23.

Mrs Hurst said: "A special booklet has been produced and commemorative mugs, jugs, and dishes are being made to mark the special occasion, these will be on sale throughout the weekend.

"Past ministers will also be visiting the church and it is hoped there will be a grand reunion of all people that have at some time in their lives been connected with the church."

Anyone who has any pictures they can loan to the church is asked to send them to Graham Mallett, at Rheims House, Lotts Bridge, Three Holes, Wisbech. Donors are asked to put name and address on the backs of photographs so they can be returned.

Anyone who can donate a picture will also be invited to a buffet tea after the exhibition.
