An Ely hair stylist tied the knot in style when he married his sweetheart in an ice hotel halfway up a mountain in Romania - minutes after the bride’s father broke his arm falling off the back of a snow mobile.
Andrew Everitt, who runs Jim Dandy hair salon in Ely, married Sam Marshall after a series of minor catastrophes including two break downs on the way to Heathrow airport, a three hour delay from Tarom to Bucharest, a snow blocked mountain and the final chapter in the story, the bride’s father breaking his arm on the mountain in Brasov.
Wedding guests took a bus along what has been voted the most amazing road in the world by the Top Gear team, which was closed due to heavy snow.
“The only way to get this bride to the church on time was via a one mile cable car journey,” said best man Austin Dack.
Arriving at the Ice Hotel Chapel he went in with the groom to help him get ready but within twenty minutes disaster struck - the bride’s father George was catapulted off the back of a snow mobile and broke his arm.
Mr Dack said: “Thankfully first aiders were on the scene and strapped him up enough for him to see the service before being taken away off the mountain for an x-ray.”
The ice chapel, which along with the hotel will melt away in just six weeks time, became the backdrop for the wedding with everything they needed shipped to the location by cable car.
“Everything you need for a wedding was delivered one mile up. The wedding cake travelled with us up on the cable car. The flowers were beautiful and settings in the ice hotel for the wedding breakfast befitting any great restaurant in this country,” Mr Dack said.
Despite the biting temperatures there was no frosty reception at this celebration and guests enjoyed a roaring night of fun joined by the bride’s father who returned in time to enjoy the after wedding party in the Ice Hotel.
At the end of the evening guests slept in either nearby chalets or in the hotel’s ice rooms.
Mr Dack said the event was a huge wedding of the year success but added that next day: “There was just enough time for one more drama as the mother of the groom ‘Babs’ Everitt was brought to the ground by the resident cable car guard dog. Luckily with not much more than a scare and a bruised derrière she was unharmed.”
