A former Cambridge, Norwich City and Peterborough United coach has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault.

He has also been charged with one case of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

It follows an investigation into non-recent allegations related to football in Cambridgeshire.

Michael “Kit” Carson, 74, of St Bartholomew’s Court, Riverside, Cambridge, was charged today after answering bail.

He has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault and one of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The offences are alleged to have happened between 1978 and 2009 and involve 11 victims, all boys under the age of 16.

Carson has been released on conditional bail to attend Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on April. 17,

Carson spent 10 years at Norwich City, including as youth coach and left the club in 1993 to join Peterborough United.

He was later appointed Cambridge United’s head of youth development in 2001. He left that role in 2006 to join Histon FC.

During his time at Norwich in the 1980s and 1990s, Carson brought through influential youngsters including Ruel Fox and Chris Sutton.

He also worked in Finland - where he began coaching youth teams in 2012 - and has taken UK youth teams on competitive tours of the country.
