Soham came out to play today – brilliant weather, enthusiastic crowds and packaged together in a superb all embracing family day out.

Organisers had kept their fingers crossed for a sunny day but by early morning the smiles were visible as the heavy horse show opened the day’s events.

There was a sprightly gathering, too, of owners and pets for the annual dog show.

Carnival prince Emerson Hillier and carnival princess Grace Wright took part in the traditional parade cheered on by enthusiastic onlookers and family and friends.

One of the guest judges for the floats was Dotty McCloud of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire who stayed to watch and enjoy an afternoon of lively performances in the arena and to enjoy the many side shows and attractions.

Organisers are putting together a summary of the day that will include competition winners and charity money raised.

We’ll bring you that during the week – for tonight however it was all about the spectacle.
