A MENAGERIE of prized pets were given the run of Ely Cathedral recently as part of the annual pet blessing service.
Hosted by Wood Green Animal Shelter, the service attracted dozens of dogs, cats, birds and even a troop of alpacas.
The service has been conducted annually for more than 20 years, with animal lovers from across the county being given a unique opportunity to have their pets blessed in the grandiose surroundings of the city’s cathedral.
A spokeswoman for Wood Green said that more than 100 animals attended on the day, “from alpacas to tortoises, a whole range of animals were united and amazingly there was no disruption,” she added.
The service and blessings on the day were carried out by Canon Alan Hargrave.
