Speak Out Council’s voice is heard as new March town centre disabled bay is opened

A local group which represents those with learning disabilities is celebrating after winning their three-year campaign to get a disabled parking bay in March town centre installed.
The Speak Out Council is a project is led by six people called Speak Out Leaders who have a learning disability or autism themselves.
Speak Out Leader for the Fens, Michelle Mansfield, mounted a campaign in 2013 by writing to Fenland District councillors and the Mayor of March, and her determination was finally rewarded when the new bay was unveiled outside Eddie’s Artworks Day Service on January 19.
Ms Mansfield said: “I’m delighted to get it put in after all these years. It took three years to get it done, but all our campaigning has finally paid off.”
Councillor Kit Owen, who backed the campaign, was also happy to see the town get a central disabled parking bay.

He said: “These things take a while to implement, but we got there eventually.”
The bay, located outside 88 High Street, March, is now available for any member of the public with a blue badge.
