SHOPPERS are being invited to try something new at Sainsbury's in March as the store undergoes a £1million refit.

The Cambs Times and Sainsbury's have teamed up to find a special person to perform the official opening of the new-look store.

We want readers to nominate someone who they think deserves to be treated like a VIP and receive a £50 voucher to spend at the store. The Cambs Times photographer will be there to record the occasion and the winner will receive a framed print as a lasting memento of the day.

All you have to do is explain why your nominee would be the perfect person to carry out the honours and send your entry to: Sainsbury's Competition, Cambs Times, 51 High Street, March, PE15 9JJ, or e-mail news@cambs-times.co.uk

Closing date for the competition is Friday August 18.

The store will close on Friday August 25 and re-open on Thursday August 31 after the refit.

Manager Scott Ward says shoppers are already noticing work in progress and should be reassured it will not affect the availability of products. It will be shopping as normal until the closure.

Mr Ward said: "Customers will be seeing a lot of changes beforehand but it won't interrupt their shopping experience."

The March store opened almost 10 years ago and is one of the most successful in the region. The refit will involve fitting new check-outs, delicatessen, a hot food counter and an extended entertainment section.

Mr Ward said: "The inside of the store will have been completely moved around but we will have floor walkers when it reopens until customers get used to where everything is."

There will also be changes to the outside of the store and in the car park a second exit is being installed. Car park management will be introduced and there will be more parking places for the disabled.
