A 22 year old March man has been remanded in custody charged with grievous bodily harm in a stabbing incident at the Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival.

The victim is in a serious but not life threatening condition.

Jamie Thomas, 22, of St Johns Road, March, was arrested on suspicion of GBH and taken to Thorpe Wood Police Station where he was later charged with grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody in a hearing at Peterborough Magistrates Court on Monday January 15.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “Officers on patrol in Whittlesey were informed at 3.35pm on Sunday (14) that a man had been assaulted in Market Street.

“The officers discovered the man had been stabbed. The man was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries and is in a stable condition.

Police and paramedics and the air ambulance were called to attend and the injured person was taken to hospital by land ambulance

Organisers said on their social media: “The police quickly dealt with the situation and the injured party was taken to hospital via ambulance, the helicopter not being needed.”
