ONE of Cambridgeshire’s most senior fire officers has warned his staff about spreading “rumour or factually incorrect information” in the run up to agreeing a �4.2 million cuts package.
Andy Watson, area manager for Cambs Fire and Rescue, issued the warning in an email sent to staff headed Freedom of Expression.
“As a service we full support our personnel’s right to freedom of expression in relation to any matter affecting our organisation,” he says.
“However this appears to be an opportune moment time to remind personnel that the unauthorised use of service time, property, equipment or resources linked to the distribution of rumour or factually incorrect information is an unacceptable practice.”
Mr Watson says the fire authority is providing regular updates on discussions over the cuts and continues to make information readily available.
He said all line managers were expected to ensure that on duty staff “do not act in a manner contrary to the interest of our organisation.
“Off duty personnel should be reminded that whilst they have complete freedom of expression where undertaking actions that associate them with the service, they should adhere to our values and behaviours.”
