MP Steve Barclay has joined the campaign to get potholes repaired across Fenland – by posting to Facebook a series of photographs of some of the worst examples.
“At best, potholes are an irritation but at worst they can damage vehicles and pose a serious danger to road users,” he said.
“A number of constituents have contacted me in frustration at the state of our roads in Fenland and I have reported a number of potholes to Cambridgeshire County Council.”
He reminded constituents that in January 2017, Cambridgeshire benefitted from a dedicated £973,000 pothole fund allocated by the Government for councils to repair and rebuild our transport links.
“But we need report issues to the council so they can be fixed. “
Wisbech town councillor Billy Rackley told him: “The trouble is even if I report them as a town councillor it can still take up to 15 working days for them to respond.”
Janice Garner Osborne posted: “There is also one at the top of Mountbatten Drive, Wisbech.
“The trouble is too when they fill them in they don’t do them properly and they are back again in six months time so do them properly when they do them so they last otherwise it is a waste of money.”
Julia Frost urged the MP to take a look at Station Street in Chatteris.
She said: “It is horrendous. It is beyond repair; it needs relaying.
“I do a lot of travelling around and reckon it is the worst urban road in Cambridgeshire. I reported it two years ago; nothing was done until last year when a few patches were screeded. It really is in a shocking state.
“I understand budgets are tight but it really does need doing.”
David Durrant felt the “shocking condition” of the road surface on Gaul Road March, needs urgent action.
“The surface has actually been in a terrible state for over 12 months since utilities works were completed to the new houses on Gaul Road,” he told the MP.
“We thought that repairs were imminent when we noticed spray marks on road surface. Unfortunately, that was months ago and the spray marks have now worn off.”
Nigel Griffiths said that “my garage tells me the split in my tyre this morning was most likely caused by a pot hole.”
