The young people from the Isle campus of the College of West Anglia, staff, RAF Commandos and the RAF Benevolent Fund joined forces to mount a fundraising change.

The Hudson leisure centre in Wisbech was the venue as some 70 students on uniformed services courses set out to raise money by completing a 302.5-mile trek.

The distance was the equivalent of travelling from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris to Marble Arch in London – the reverse of the route they undertook earlier this year.

The team began with cycling 194 miles on a cycling machine, swimming the equivalent of 22 miles across the “Channel” and then ending with 86.5 miles to “London”.

Their swimming went so well it was decided to undertake more running and cycling to make use of the spare time.

It is hoped the students will have raised as much as £800 during the day which will go to the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Bryan Kettle came from Oxfordshire to represent its southern regional team.

Adding to the Forces theme were three commandos from RAF Wittering who took part in some of the exhausting events.

It was organised for the college by Adi Kent and John Yare, both uniformed services lecturers at the Isle campus.

Their previous gruelling challenge was in May when they raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
