A GROUP of March students have stepped in to help the elderly residents of St Mary’s House in Whittlesey - by tackling their overgrown garden.

The Neale-Wade Community College students cleared the grounds of the sheltered housing scheme as part of a project organised by Roddons Housing Association and Apollo.

The work experience scheme is designed to prepare youngsters for employment. St Mary’s House was chosen for the project as the residents were unable to do the work themselves.

Wendy Coles, community and projects officer at Roddons, said: “I have been working with students from local schools for the past two years and I am always impressed by the commitment they put in.”

Roddons staff hope to hold a coffee morning for the students later this month, where they will be presented with a certificate and shopping voucher.
