Two Ely College students swam 96 lengths to fundraise for their trip to Kenya where they’ll help build and repair classrooms and teach English and sports to children.

Katelyn Cross and Rhiannon Moule completed a sponsored swim at The Hive Leisure Centre as they are among a group of students planning to travel to Nakuru in February 2019 in order to help children in poverty.

They said: “We would like to say a big thank you to The Hive Leisure Centre and all their friends and family for supporting us and helping to raise money for our trip to Kenya.”

Katelyn trip is being sponsored by Avis decorators and Complete Kitchens, while Rhiannon’s is sponsored by Guyatt House and Coram.

An Ely College spokesman said: “They managed to swim an impressive 96 lengths between them. So here’s a big thank you to everybody for their support throughout the year - it will really make a big difference.”

On the trip students will help build and repair classrooms and help teach children English and sports – but they each need more than £1,800 to fund it.

Year 10 students on the trip have spent this year carrying out numerous fundraising activities including cake sales and car boot sales.
