STUDENTS from Neale-Wade Community College, March, celebrated winning three awards at the National Championship of F1 in Schools. The competition is a unique student challenge in which schoolchildren aged 11 to 18 use CAD/CAM software to design, build and test a model CO2-powered balsa wood F1 car of the future. More than 500 schools competed in the competition which was held at the motorsport industry's annual Autosport International Show, attended by more than 90,000 people over the four-day event. Team Firestarter, pictured right, the students from Neale-Wade, won the Best Team Website award, and the Innovative Thinking Award in the 11-14 age group. They were also placed second in the 11-14 age group of the overall Challenge. F1 in Schools aims to help change perceptions of engineering, science and technology by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in Engineering, Science and Technology.
