OLDER teenagers are giving the thumbs-down to a youth centre in March.

Now they are being given a chance to say what facilities and events they would like.

Youngsters who have been given funds to promote Young People March are anxious to attract those aged 15 and over back to the City Road building.

A youth council has been formed and they will hold a meeting on Sunday.

They have redecorated the centre and have plans for a new pool table and air hockey table.

Sixteen-year-old Stacey O'Hara said only a small group of older teenagers regularly used the centre although it was well used by younger age groups who enjoyed regular discos.

"There is hardly anyone of our age who uses it and it would stop people just hanging about on the streets if they did. We want to hold things like DJ workshops but we need more people to come," said Stacey.

Members of the youth council will be at YPM for the meeting at 5pm on Sunday and want others to come along with their ideas.

Stacey added: "It is no good us just having ideas because it might not be what others want."

YPM is a voluntary organisation set up in 1993 and it achieved charitable status the following year. It is run with the help of adults and young people who volunteer.

It opened after several years of campaigning by youngsters.
