"We will not allow hate to become acceptable" is the message being driven by Whittlesey District Councillor David Mason.

Cllr Mason is to discuss how the council can tackle hate crime at a Fenland District Council meeting next week.

“We are proud to live in a diverse and tolerant society,” he said.

“Racism, xenophobia and hate crimes have no place in our country.”

Cllr Mason added that Fenland District Council condemns racism, xenophobia and hate crimes unequivocally.

He said the council “will work to ensure local bodies and programmes have support and resources needed to fight and prevent racism and xenophobia.

“We reassure all people living in the area that they are valued members of our community.”

He will also ask fellow councillors to “publically condemn any such attacks” and make it clear what steps the council will take to tackle racist, xenophobic and criminal behaviour.

The meeting takes place next Thursday (21).
