A teenager was caught by police with a small armoury of weapons that included a taser, a knuckle duster, a lock knife and - for good measure - a spanner.

The 18-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had acquired the taser which had been designed to look like a ‘flashlight’, a court heard.

At Cambridge Crown Court he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a bladed article.

He was sentenced last Wednesday (May 2) to 18 months in a young offenders’ institute.

The 18-year-old was stopped by officers in Hampton, Peterborough, on June 23 last year after he’d been seen carrying a taser earlier that day.

After a stop-and-search, police discovered the man was in possession of a taser, disguised as a flash light, a knuckle duster, lock knife and a spanner.

They later discovered two more tasers in the vehicle he was travelling in.

Detective Constable Kevin Poole said: “Those who carry weapons like this do so without understanding the real consequences of using them.

In interview the teenager told officers he carried the knuckle duster and taser for “self-protection” but had no intention of using them.
