A county council road show to gauge opinion on transport options – including improvements to Horsefair bus station- is coming to Wisbech twice this month.

Wisbech has secured two of nine dates where the road show will be held: among other issues it outlines options to cope with a growth in house building.

A county council spokesman said: “The transport proposals are to support planned housing growth and to allow the local economy to continue to grow and prosper.

“The strategy aims to improve accessibility, reduce congestion and improve health by giving people more transport choice.”]

The spokesman said there are ambitious growth plans across Cambridgeshire, with around 72,500 new homes expected to be built by 2031/6.

Consultation events will be held at the following times and venues;

* June 10, 3pm-6pm, Wisbech Library, Ely Place

* June 20, 10am-2pm, Wisbech Market

Also on show will be more detailed draft market town strategies for Wisbech including a raft of improvements for walking, cycling, buses and motor traffic and views are welcome on these.

Some of the proposals for Wisbech include:

* A technical study of options for a new link road or river crossing in the town

* Improvements to traffic management/signals on Cromwell Road, Churchill Road and Lynn Road

* Investigating options to improve Horsefair bus station

* Walking and cycling improvements around the town

Dearbhla Lawson, Head of Transport and Infrastructure Policy and Funding said: “The economy of Cambridgeshire is vital to the national economy.

“Therefore, an effective, sustainable transport network is vital for the prosperity of Cambridgeshire and the UK.

“As well as improvements to rail, bus, walking and cycling, a key ambition is to improve accessibility on the strategic network and address constraints on the A14, A428, A10 and A47.”
