Tesco to end 24 hour shopping at March - but you’ll still be able to shop through the night at their Ely and Wisbech stores

Tesco shoppers in March, Cambridgeshire, will no longer have 24 hour shopping after it was announced today it was one of 76 stores where round the clock opening is to end.
However the news means shoppers can still drive to Wisbech (12 miles) or to Ely (20 miles) where 24/7 remains in place.
Tesco says the reason for axing 24 hour shopping at some stores is because customer numbers had dropped at those hours – partly because of the growth in on line shopping.
There are about 400 Tesco stores open 24 hours a day.
“It makes much more sense for colleagues at those stores to focus on replenishing the shelves instead and making sure they’re fully stocked when they open their doors at 6am,” said Tesco retail director Tony Hoggett.
However Tesco shoppers heading along the A141 to Ely will still be able to see the £25 million ‘mothballed’ store at Chatteris that remains unsold and vacant.
