AMONG the first, if not THE first, county councillor to congratulate Shona Johnstone on her election to leader was Fenland councillor Alan Melton.
His fulsome embrace of Mrs Johnstone might be regarded as understandable, given former leader Keith Walters' disinclination to restore a Cabinet post to Cllr Melton.
Councillor Jill Tuck is delighted a woman beat two men for the top job at Shirehall.
"The best person won" she says.
For the record the county council has 18 women and 49 men among their ranks, with two vacancies due for election next month.
