Works to improve safety at the rail crossing on Station Road, March, are due to carried out on July 22.

Matthew Pickering, project manager for the county council, said that double yellow lines would be installed “to protect the crossing and prevent traffic building up due to inconsiderate parking”.

He also said there would be markings outside the bus stop to allow ease of stopping and a new cycle lane would be provided.

County councillor Steve Count said the issues surrounding the crossing were one of a number of “long running sores in March north for many years”.

He was delighted work was under way and he was now stepping up his campaign for a safe way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Norwood Road Bridge.

He also wanted the county council to adopt roads on the Dagless Way estate.

“One down and two to go,” he said. “I am still making progress on both other projects and aim to have equally positive news in this financial year.”
