Flat and National Hunt racing - even a Maltese trotter race - came to the Fens this week.

All were part of the races shown on DVD to help raise money for charity at a special auction and race night at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel.

Organised by the mayor of March, Councillor Jan French, Robert Skoulding of the Oliver Cromwell Hotel, March, and Chatteris Lions and the Cambs Times, the evening raised about £1,500 the Fenland Area Community Enterprise Trust.

The event attracted a wide range of sponsors for the individual races which saw diverse names such as Shelia's Folly, Ace Hack, Dream Lover and Down the Pan competing in individual races.

Among items auctioned on the night by John Elworthy, of the Cambs Times, were four tickets to watch Arsenal at their Emirates Stadium, a child's computer, ladies' and gents' watches, and signed books by celebrity builder Tommy Walsh.
