The March Society celebrated its 10th anniversary as the town’s civic society by hosting a quiz on the topic of ‘March’ and a buffet featuring a celebration cake showing society’s logo.
Chairman Jennifer Lawler thanked everyone for their support over the ten years.
Andrew Clarke, secretary and quizmaster, asked 50 questions about buildings, sites and the history of March, and about Heritage Open Days events.
They included questions like: “What event does the March Fountain commemorate? “What was the road to the station called before it was ‘Station Road?” and “What is the name of the Woolly Rhinoceros skull at Fossils Galore?”
The next event on Wednesday October 11 at 7pm in March Library is a presentation on ‘The Rectors of March and Doddington’ with David Edwards, archivist of March Museum.
He will introduce some of the gentlemen who have held the rectory since 1216.
They include one who died in battle, an ambassador of Henry VIII, an Elizabethan musician and a future bishop.
