DRIVERS are being warned to be extra vigilant following a series of thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles in Fenland.Pc Andy Key, from the community safety department at March Police Station, said: "Over the last few weeks we have had an increase in the number of reported thefts from vehicles in March, Chatteris and the surrounding villages."Stereo systems were stolen from many of the vehicles and Pc Key added: "The majority of vehicle-related crime is committed by a minority of opportunist thieves."I would offer the following advice."Try to leave your vehicle parked in a well-lit area overlooked by residential properties; remove all audio equipment if possible when leaving your vehicle parked; keep details of makes, models and serial numbers of such equipment and have them marked permanently and visibly; ensure all other valuable property is removed from the vehicle and the glove box is open to show nothing is in it; consider installing a car alarm, immobiliser and locking wheel nuts.INFORMATION: For more details on vehicle security, contact the police community safety department on 0845 456 4564.
