Pupils were given a tour of a Fenland haulage firm yesterday when they presented a model lorry made by a parent.

Year 5 and 6 children at Thomas Eaton Primary School, Wimblington, enjoyed a trip around Knowles Transport’s yard in one of the company’s cabs.

While they were there, the children presented a model lorry made from recycled materials to staff at the haulage firm.

As well as the Knowles lorry, pupils showed of Christmas lorries they made from Coca-Cola boxes as part of a design and technology project.

In return, Knowles general manager Mark Hubbard gave the school a model replica of a Knowles lorry in box and a selection box.

Year 6 teacher Sue Mayern said: “The Puffins class were asked to make a lorry out of junk. They had to decide which box would be suitable, measure the wheels and so on.

“One of the pupil’s parents heard about the project and made a Knowles lorry.

“It is really nice to be able to build links with an established business in the village and the children loved getting to go in one of their cabs and have a trip around the yard.”

Knowles Transport is a third-generation family business which was founded in 1932.
