With a hearty laugh and a delicious rasp in his voice, Santa came to town to officially take part in the one of the biggest nights of the year – the switching on of March Christmas lights.

Thousands thronged the market square as Santa edged his way down the High Street accompanied by helpers from March Lions and others who help stage this annual extravaganza.

It was, of course, a night for youngsters who after being hoisted on parents shoulders to see Santa arrive on stage were taken off down Broad Street for the annual fun fair that accompanies the opening night.

March Town Council help to stage the evening and a number of councillors helped out, stewarding the event and ensuring it went off smoothly.

Three boats along the river were lit up for the occasion, too, providing townsfolk and visitors alike with an evening to remember.
