PAUL Broadribb will go to jail for 45 days if he fails to pay off his Council Tax debt, magistrates warned this week.

Broadribb, 35, of The Delph, Whittlesey, owed Fenland District Council a total of £2,706.10.

Fenland magistrates agreed to knock £706 off the debt, and ordered him to pay the remainder at £200 a month, for the next 10 months.

Broadribb told the court he had worked for only eight months in the last two years, and his lodger had not regularly paid rent, because he had been out of work until recently.

Imposing the suspended jail sentence, presiding magistrate Alan Jones advised Broadribb to get his tenant to pay rent.
