Three people died in two separate collisions on Cambridgeshire roads over the weekend.

A motorcyclist died as a result of a collision on the M11 near Duxford at 2.30pm yesterday.

The rider, 21-year-old Dane Curran, of Kenmore Way in Newcastle upon Tyne, was on the M11 southbound when he collided with a red BMW 1 series.

And two women died in a collision in Kings Ripton near Huntingdon.

Margaret Oliver, known as Peggy, 84, of Parkes Road, Chigwell in Essex was driving her silver Nissan Micra in Ramsey Road, Kings Ripton, at about 7.45pm when it collided with a black Nissan Qashqai.

Sadly Peggy died at the scene, along with her front seat passenger, 77-year-old Joy Carr, also from the Essex area.

A passenger in the rear of the Micra, a woman in her early 50s from the Kent area, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries where she remains in a stable condition.

The driver and passenger of the Qashqai suffered minor injuries.

Two cars were involved- both vehicles left the road and ended up in a nearby field leaving five people trapped inside the cars.

Sergeant Simon Goldsmith from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “The driver of the Qashqai recalls seeing a car pass them at the time of the collision so I am appealing to whoever was in that car to get in touch with us urgently.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or either of the vehicles in the moments leading up to it should call the road policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or report via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

In the earlier M11 collision the air ambulance attended and air lifted Dane to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where sadly he passed away on Sunday.

“We are absolutely devastated at the loss of our son, Dane, following his motorcycle accident on Saturday,” his family said in a statement.

“Dane was the most kind and considerate person who would help anyone, whether he knew them or not made no difference. He worked as a full time youth leader in Hexham, Northumberland and was also a part-time photographer and talented guitarist, playing in a couple of local rock bands.

“His most recent passion was his motorcycle – he was travelling to France for the weekend after having a failed attempt at the same journey due to mechanical problems on his 21st birthday in February.

“He will be a huge miss to all of us. I speak as his father but I can honestly say he was the most fantastic, beautiful person I have ever known.”

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call the road policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
